She's Here!

Welcome Abbi Jean Pedersen to the world. We are glad to have her here and Kaylee loves her little sister. Born 11-1-11 3:21am Abbi weighed in at 6lbs 12oz and 20.5 inches tall. We had gone in to the hospital on Sunday the 30th of October for an NST (had been doing 2 times a week for the last 4 weeks) and a BPP (1 time a week for 4 weeks). By the end of the BPP (ultrasound test), she wasn't showing any tone (flexing her muscles while moving), which she hadn't passed in the last test either. The nurses thought it was odd that she had no tone while the whole time she was moving perfectly fine during the NST. But, the doctor decided to keep me in the hospital and induce. Luckily I had just packed some of the bag the night before. We definitely were not prepared to stay that night, but it worked out. They began with Cervidil, which had to stay in for 12 hours. It was supposed to help with thinning and dilation. The nurse had said she had even seen it send women into full on labor. Apparently my body had other plans. 12 hours passed and I was still at 1.5, which is what I was at for the last 2 weeks. No progression was made so a couple of hours later they inserted a gel (Oct. 31st). After about 8 hours there was a little bit of progress, but not much. Mostly just contractions and still only at a 2. So after an hour they started the Pitocin. Because of the diabetes, I was constantly on monitors and had IVs in everywhere. Usually I had about 3 different bags hanging up at a time. I had progressed to a 3 and could get an epidural. by the time I got the epidural and they upped the Pitocin to 6, within an hour I had gone from a 3 to a 9. I could still move my legs, much the the nurses amazement, and I could still move around for the most part. They came the pressure. I could feel her pushing down, but something was stopping her from breaking my water. Come to find it was the balloon on the catheter. As soon as they took it out 3 pushes later, and she was here (Nov.1). The cord was wrapped around her neck and arm, but that was quickly taken care of. She was healthy as could be. Until that night when they took her to do her tests. Her Billirubin test (Jaundice) came back extremely high so she had to go to the nursery all day and sit under the lights except to be fed. Her levels were so high that she almost had to have a blood transfusion, but luckily after 20 hours under the lights, her levels had dropped a lot. By Thursday afternoon (Nov. 3) we were on our way home. Since being home, things are slow going, but we're getting by. Nights and days are definitely backwards, because Abbi is tongue tied, she has a hard time nursing, which is more painful for me, but we suffer through until we can get her tongue clipped. She, like Kaylee, has a loud screeching cry, and you know when she's calling. She is a noisy baby so she now sleeps in the closet in the bassinet. We can still hear her when she wakes up, but not all the little noises she makes while sleeping. She loves to be held and swaddled (definitely different from Kaylee who hated to be wrapped up) and she hates the swing and bouncer (hopefully this will change in the future). Outside of the no sleep and constantly changing poopy diapers, we are loving on our new little one. Kaylee loves to give her kisses and is always washing her hands so she can rub Abbi's head. Kaylee calls her Abbikins and sweet sweet baby. Kaylee has been helpful with most things that don't relate to Abbi. She is adjusting well, but definitely can tell she doesn't get as much mommy time as she once had. I try to spend time with her while Garth is home to watch Abbi. She was a mommy's girl and always will be. We are blessed to have Abbi and Kaylee in our home and couldn't have asked for better children. Garth is busy busy this month and next. He was the financial clerk in our ward and is now the ward clerk. He hasn't been released from the financial clerk so he is doing multiple callings. Plus tithing settlement started this week so he is away from us a good portion of the week. But he is doing the Lord's work and we wouldn't have it any other way. He also has multiple Sunday meetings one of which starts at 6:30AM. Now those who know Garth well know he loves his sleep. It can be very hard to get him out of bed in the morning. But he has been doing a great job at getting up by himself so I don't have to worry about whether or not he is going in the morning. I am just busy with the girls and resting as much as possible to allow my body to recover. Garth is constantly reminding me to not pick up something or not stand on a chair to do something, but I'm trying. I am looking forward to getting back into the kitchen to bake some goodies for the holidays next week. I've missed it.
