Big News: Welcome Abbi Jean Pedersen!

Abbi Jean (2months): Welcome to the world! Abbi was born on 11-1-11. A great birthday huh! She took a while to get here after mom had to be induced, but she made it. She was born at 3:21am and weighed 6lbs. 12oz. and was 20.5 inches long. She, like her sister has had a hard time sleeping, and spitting up, but is doing much better most days. She has begun to smile and coo (although her coos are more like ahhhs). She now weighs a whopping 14lbs. She is in the 97th percentile for weight! It’s amazing how much she has gained despite how much she spits and throws up. She is a happy baby most of the time and a joy to have around.

Kaylee (2 going on 13): She is our teenage drama queen. She loves to ride her bike, play outside, watch movies (especially Monster’s Inc.), play games and play with Abbi. She loves to squish Abbi’s cheeks and say “chunky.” Kaylee has an amazing imagination. Often times you will find her in her room playing with her dolls or kitchen set making up different stories and situations. She spends most of her time in the play room. She loves going to “gamma Jomes” (Grandma Jones) where she gets to play outside in the dirt. She is a dirt child she loves it. She loves all of her family and often will give you hugs and say “I love you.” She loves to play basketball with her daddy and often goes on Tuesday nights with him to play. She loves to be a princess and got new dress up clothes for Christmas. She will dress up and pretend to dance with her prince and have tea parties. She definitely keeps her parents on their toes. She is a fast little runner. If she knows she has done something wrong and gets caught she will put herself in timeout.

Garth: Continues to go to school. He will finish at the end of March and could not be more excited. He has gotten straight A’s thus far. He is also working for Ashley’s dad, which he enjoys. And he has a great boss so what could be better. He plays basketball once a week, which he would not miss to save his life (Except when Abbi was born, he joked about leaving to go play.) He loves watching college basketball especially U of A. He has enjoyed playing Dominion (a game he got for Christmas). We’ve played almost every day since. He received a new calling a couple of months ago and was called to be the ward clerk. He hadn’t been released from the financial clerk so he got to do both until they called a new one. He enjoys it outside of the early morning meetings (6:30am).

Ashley: Stays home with the babies. She has put up her craft stuff for a while to make room for baby. But it is easily accessible if needed. She also continues to teach 2 of our nieces piano. Has enjoyed having a zoo membership to take the girls anytime. She tries to read as much as possible with two little ones around. Baking has been in full swing this holiday season and she has had fun trying new recipes. She enjoys watch basketball with Garth and playing Dominion. Especially when she wins! She continues to be the pianist in Relief Society and enjoys being able to play each week. She is adjusting to having two kids and enjoys the time she spends with the family. She loves their new van and all the space. Makes traveling easier. She’s looking forward to taking the family to the beach this summer and going to Disneyland later in the year with the family.

We hope you had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

She's Here!

Welcome Abbi Jean Pedersen to the world. We are glad to have her here and Kaylee loves her little sister. Born 11-1-11 3:21am Abbi weighed in at 6lbs 12oz and 20.5 inches tall. We had gone in to the hospital on Sunday the 30th of October for an NST (had been doing 2 times a week for the last 4 weeks) and a BPP (1 time a week for 4 weeks). By the end of the BPP (ultrasound test), she wasn't showing any tone (flexing her muscles while moving), which she hadn't passed in the last test either. The nurses thought it was odd that she had no tone while the whole time she was moving perfectly fine during the NST. But, the doctor decided to keep me in the hospital and induce. Luckily I had just packed some of the bag the night before. We definitely were not prepared to stay that night, but it worked out. They began with Cervidil, which had to stay in for 12 hours. It was supposed to help with thinning and dilation. The nurse had said she had even seen it send women into full on labor. Apparently my body had other plans. 12 hours passed and I was still at 1.5, which is what I was at for the last 2 weeks. No progression was made so a couple of hours later they inserted a gel (Oct. 31st). After about 8 hours there was a little bit of progress, but not much. Mostly just contractions and still only at a 2. So after an hour they started the Pitocin. Because of the diabetes, I was constantly on monitors and had IVs in everywhere. Usually I had about 3 different bags hanging up at a time. I had progressed to a 3 and could get an epidural. by the time I got the epidural and they upped the Pitocin to 6, within an hour I had gone from a 3 to a 9. I could still move my legs, much the the nurses amazement, and I could still move around for the most part. They came the pressure. I could feel her pushing down, but something was stopping her from breaking my water. Come to find it was the balloon on the catheter. As soon as they took it out 3 pushes later, and she was here (Nov.1). The cord was wrapped around her neck and arm, but that was quickly taken care of. She was healthy as could be. Until that night when they took her to do her tests. Her Billirubin test (Jaundice) came back extremely high so she had to go to the nursery all day and sit under the lights except to be fed. Her levels were so high that she almost had to have a blood transfusion, but luckily after 20 hours under the lights, her levels had dropped a lot. By Thursday afternoon (Nov. 3) we were on our way home. Since being home, things are slow going, but we're getting by. Nights and days are definitely backwards, because Abbi is tongue tied, she has a hard time nursing, which is more painful for me, but we suffer through until we can get her tongue clipped. She, like Kaylee, has a loud screeching cry, and you know when she's calling. She is a noisy baby so she now sleeps in the closet in the bassinet. We can still hear her when she wakes up, but not all the little noises she makes while sleeping. She loves to be held and swaddled (definitely different from Kaylee who hated to be wrapped up) and she hates the swing and bouncer (hopefully this will change in the future). Outside of the no sleep and constantly changing poopy diapers, we are loving on our new little one. Kaylee loves to give her kisses and is always washing her hands so she can rub Abbi's head. Kaylee calls her Abbikins and sweet sweet baby. Kaylee has been helpful with most things that don't relate to Abbi. She is adjusting well, but definitely can tell she doesn't get as much mommy time as she once had. I try to spend time with her while Garth is home to watch Abbi. She was a mommy's girl and always will be. We are blessed to have Abbi and Kaylee in our home and couldn't have asked for better children. Garth is busy busy this month and next. He was the financial clerk in our ward and is now the ward clerk. He hasn't been released from the financial clerk so he is doing multiple callings. Plus tithing settlement started this week so he is away from us a good portion of the week. But he is doing the Lord's work and we wouldn't have it any other way. He also has multiple Sunday meetings one of which starts at 6:30AM. Now those who know Garth well know he loves his sleep. It can be very hard to get him out of bed in the morning. But he has been doing a great job at getting up by himself so I don't have to worry about whether or not he is going in the morning. I am just busy with the girls and resting as much as possible to allow my body to recover. Garth is constantly reminding me to not pick up something or not stand on a chair to do something, but I'm trying. I am looking forward to getting back into the kitchen to bake some goodies for the holidays next week. I've missed it.

Our lives & Grandparents

Well the last 2 months have been some exciting and frustrating ones.  We have been busy as ever.  First the rundown for our family, Garth is as always busy with school, work and church callings.  I have been busy scrapbooking and making crafts, and running around with Kaylee.  Motherhood is truly a great blessing.  Kaylee is growing, growing, growing.  She is talking so much more now and has been putting her words together for a while.  WE ARE OFFICIALLY POTTY TRAINED FOR THE DAYTIME!  She loves to wear her big girl underwear.  We still have the occasional accident but not very often.  She has had a couple of accidents the last couple of months also… she was trying to open a child’s folding chair and pinched her finger in it and then fell on it.  Her finger was caught and the nail was broken.  She has lost the top half, but will soon lose the bottom half.  Then last Saturday at our yard sale, she was trying to climb in a wheel barrel after Garth told her not to many times and fell off, leading to a smashed thumb that is now purple and will eventually fall off also.  And all on the same hand! She is a trooper.  We go in next month for her 2 year appt.  I can’t believe I’m going to have a 2 year old in less than a month!

The first week of January Garth’s Grandma Pedersen passed away.  She was a very talented and loving person.  She was a woman after my own heart.  She loved to craft and sew.  She made many blankets for her grandchildren, toll painted, and many other things.  We headed to California for the funeral.

A month later exactly, in February,  Garth’s Grandma Potter passed away.  She had lived with us for a few months and then moved to California with Garth’s Aunt.  She was a funny woman who loved her family.  She was very musical and also crocheted many baby blankets and booties for the newborns.  She was a great missionary.  She would share the gospel with anyone she saw.  Every time she was on a plane she had to give the flight attendants a Book of Mormon.  She always carried one with her.  We headed to North Carolina for her funeral.  It was a great service and you could tell she was loved.  I was lucky enough to get to do a lot of the decorations and things for the table about her and her family.  I also got to play the piano for the special musical numbers which were beautiful.  One of which Garth sang with his sister Kristin!  Garth’s first time singing in public!

Potter

As February has begun to come to a close, my Grandpa Sanderson has not been doing well.  This one is hard for me because he was the Grandpa I was closest too growing up.  And he has been living with my parents for the last year.  He was really weak and could hardly talk.  My mom’s siblings are coming this weekend (one of which is already here).  He has perked up some and has been doing a little better yesterday and today, but I think that the Lord is preparing his way.  It is interesting how when someone’s path is coming to an end on Earth, they seem to have a day or two or so of great days, then eventually go on to the Lord, like their last hurrah.  I have been blessed to have been able to spend more time with him.

So  outside of funerals and getting things done at Garth’s grandma Potter’s house for the yard sale and things, we have been busy.  Garth and I are finally getting a date tonight! It has been a while.

February Craft Day

Ammie and I started back up with our craft day! It was fun to finally get together and chat and do crafts while Kaylee and Max played.  We made some V-day crafts and they turned out cute.  We made conversational heart bottles and a Love frame.  I also had made a V-day subway art frame to add to my others.
